West Point is, of course, most famous for being the home of the United States Military Academy. The academy itself has existed since 1802, but the town it belongs to is older than that. West Point also serves as the oldest military post in the United States that is still active today. It is located just above the Hudson River in New York State. George Washington himself pointed out how valuable the location was in terms of strategic placement.
Then, on January 27, 1778, Brigadier General Samuel Holden Parsons made history. He also altered the destiny of the United States Army. How so, you ask? He led his brigade across the frozen Hudson. They then proceeded to reach the wide plain they found there. Technically speaking, it is a census-designated place belonging to the town of Highlands. Highlands itself can be found in New York's Orange County.
The troops and civilians who call West Point are probably well aware of the area’s rich military history. Before WP gained its current name, Fort Clinton stood as its immediate predecessor. The unusual S-curve of the nearby Hudson made it a uniquely defensible location. The garrison even placed a chain boom in the water to block British naval vessels from punching through their defenses. Such a scenario never came to pass.
The Military Academy here predates all of its counterparts for different service branches found around the country. Suppose you're about to graduate from the campus - reward yourself with a beautiful new army ring crafted for you by the artisans here at J. Jenkins Sons! Here's another point of interest: the West Point Bullion Depository was built here in 1937. Gold bullion can be converted into metals used for jewelry creation along with bricks that are valuable all on their own. In 1988, it was renamed the "West Point Mint" since it was reorganized as a branch of the United States Mint instead.
Recruiting specialists are an integral part of making the Army better every day. They're often seen visiting job fairs and career counseling sessions. Even though many cadets decide to join the academy straight out of high school, this isn't always the case. Some could decide to join while still in college, even if they are not directly affiliated with the academy's role as an educational institution. In any case, recruiters in West Point and beyond leave a lasting legacy that cannot and should not be ignored.
With J. Jenkins Sons, you always have the option of designing your own high-quality custom army recognition or recruiter ring! We want you to walk away with an army ring that you can show to the world with pride.
Your incredible service to our country deserves a quality ring to showcase it most elegantly and beautifully. Contact J. Jenkins Sons today to work with West Point, New York’s best option for both types of army honorific rings!
